Production of glass-ceramic from incinerator fly ash

چکیده
Vitrification is one of the technological options for treating toxic waste. This paper reports the results of the feasibility study of utilizing fly ash from municipal waste incinerators by powder sintering technology. This process was used to transform vitrified incinerated fly ash into a CaO–Al2O3–SiO2 system of glass ceramic products. The major phase exhibited is gehlenite (Ca2Al2SiO7), which belongs to the melilite group. The glass-ceramics exhibited attractive physical and mechanical properties. The products can be fabricated at 900 C/2 h for construction purposes and have large application potential. # 2002 Elsevier Science Ltd and Techna S.r.l. All rights reserved.

Rf Thermal Plasma Vitrification of Incinerator Bottom and Fly Ashes with Waste Glasses from Fluorescent Lamps
Thermal plasma vitrification is a successfully used technology to treat and recycle hazardous wastes. High plasma temperatures enable to destroy complex molecules and to encapsulate the toxic elements in a non-leaching glass or ceramic matrix, obtaining nonhazardous wastes with large volume reductions. In this work, hazardous incinerator residues (bottom and fly ashes) have been treated by mean...
متن کاملUse of vitrified urban incinerator waste as raw material for production of sintered glass - ceramics
The crystallisation behaviour of vitrified industrial waste (fly ash from domiciliary solid waste incineration) was examined by differential thermal analysis, X-ray diffractometry and scanning electron microscopy. It was demonstrated that powder processing route was required to transform the vitrified industrial waste into glass-ceramics products. Time-Temperature-Transformation (TTT) diagrams ...
متن کاملGlass-ceramic frits from fly ash in terracotta production.
Preliminary results of an investigation into the possible use of glass-ceramic frits from fly ash and glass cullet in terracotta (stoneware) tile manufacture are reported. Two new ceramics were studied and compared with a plant composition, containing 45 wt.% sodium feldspar. In the first ceramic batch 20% of the feldspar was substituted by frits and in the second the whole amount of feldspar w...
متن کاملGlass-ceramics: Their Production from Wastes. a Review
Glass-ceramics are polycrystalline materials of fine microstructure that are produced by the controlled crystallisation (devitrification) of a glass. Numerous silicate based wastes, such as coal combustion ash, slag from steel production, fly ash and filter dusts from waste incinerators, mud from metal hydrometallurgy, different types of sludge as well as glass cullet or mixtures of them have b...

For a developing country like Bangladesh, waste management is an important issue. Since it is a small over-populated country , strict government regulations regarding landfills is essential. Expansion of ceramic industries is considered to be one of the potential sectors for the economic growth of Bangladesh. However, raw material cost per unit production is the prime concern for industrialists...
